Welcome Message

imageOn behalf of the Sarawak Convention Bureau, it is indeed my great pleasure to invite all potential delegates to register for the World Psychotherapy Conference Asia 2015 on 31st to 2nd September 2015 which takes place in Kuching, Sarawak, on the exotic island of Borneo!

The capital city of Kuching offers a combination of old-world culture and new-world modern infrastructure. In Kuching, history meets mystery culminating in outstanding culture, adventure and nature activities.  Kuching deliberately retained much of its colonial charm even throughout rapid development.

Sarawak’s “White Rajahs” left their historical legacy here through the magnificent colonial buildings established hundreds of years ago. More than 28 ethnic groups each with their own language and culture have created a wealth of resources in unique arts, crafts and heritage sites. At the city fringes, there are national parks, beaches, mountains, rivers, and some of the world’s largest wildlife and rainforest reserves.

The Sarawak Convention Bureau was formed by the Sarawak State Government in 2006 to support impactful business events. By that, we mean business events that can potentially benefit local communities by bringing in more opportunities for trade, research, education, and foreign exchange. This also includes events that stimulate corporate social responsibility activities that positively promotes the sustainability of culture, nature or community.

As such, we believe that this conference will enable greater awareness of mental health so that more can be done to identify and help those who are in need. Mental health services in Malaysia are limited if not scarce in many areas especially in rural and undeveloped areas. To date, Malaysia’s major mental health providers include the General Hospital Psychiatric units, non-profit organizations, private sector services, and traditional healers.

Once again, “Selamat Datang”, welcome to the mystical “Land of the Hornbills”.

Enjoy your stay in Kuching, and we wish you a successful conference.

Mr. Mike Cannon
Managing Director
